A classical flutist for over 30 years, Tim Koop-Whittley loves to share his passion for music with the younger generation. He is currently principal flutist of the North State Symphony and has also performed with groups such as the Folsom Lake Symphony, Symphony Napa Valley, Opera Modesto, Palo Alto Philharmonic, and the Vallejo Symphony. In addition to playing in orchestral settings, Tim also loves Opera and Ballet. He has played in numerous shows including The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Rigoletto, La Boheme and Carmen, to name a few.
A native of Chico, California, Tim studied with Isabelle Chapuis-Starr of Opera San Jose and Cathy Payne of the San Francisco Symphony while pursuing his music degree at San Jose State University. He continued his studies at Indiana University, studying with Kate Lukas, and additionally received coaching from the Cleveland Orchestra flute section while obtaining his master’s degree.
Tim always strives to ignite his passion for music into his students. After all, they are the ones who will carry the “music” torch into future generations.
